The family farm is going high-tech. From robotic milking machines to data-gathering drones, industry watchers say technology is making agriculture more precise and efficient as farmers push for increased profits and yields.

Agriculture is always going to be a top priority, everybody's going to always need to eat and everybody's going to always need some help with that so as long as you're willing to put in the hours, there's a job there for you.

Agriculture is the great art of directing and aiding nature in the performance of those functions which were designed by Providence for the comfort and subsistence of man.

How can he get wisdom that holdeth the plough, and that glorieth in the goad, that driveth oxen, and is occupied in their labors, and whose talk is of the bullocks?

Ecclesiasticus 38:25
Agriculture is not a sexy subject as far as the media or the local ruling elites are concerned. Sprawling farm houses are sexy. Sunday brunch parties at the same locations are sexy occasions. But agriculture as an object of study and concern is not part of the Pakistani way of doing things. And this despite the claptrap that Pakistan is an agricultural country with 60 percent of the workforce toiling on the land. Far truer to say that Pakistan is now an urban-dominated country where agriculture is the mare or donkey which everyone rides ... and keeps in line with a heavy stick.

I think the FFA is incredibly important, not only to the ag community, but more importantly to develop leaders in our state and within our communities. Farm kids are hard workers and can have half a day of work in before they even go to school, and then they come home and continue to work. There's tremendous value in that.

Agriculture has become essential to life; the forest, the lake, and the ocean cannot sustain the increasing family of man; population declines with a declining cultivation, and nations have ceased to be with the extinction of their agriculture.

The history of American agriculture is also a story of daring fraud, insatiable greed, ruthless speculation, vicious racism, malicious corporate power, callous government policy, and incredible violence.

American Agriculture: A Brief History
As we search for a less extractive and polluting economic order, so that we may fit agriculture into the economy of a sustainable culture, community becomes the locus and metaphor for both agriculture and culture.

Advances in medicine and agriculture have saved vastly more lives than have been lost in all the wars in history.

Agriculture is the archimedean lever which, though it does not move a world, tends to fill it with plenty, with moral health, and human happiness.

When harvests are exuberant, joy and health follow in their train; but let delusive prosperity draw industry from agriculture; let an insiduous disease attack one of its important products; let an insect, or a parasite, fasten on a single esculent, and mark the effect upon commerce and human life. Upon such an event all business is deranged.

I do think that there is a big difference between family farms and agri-business, and one of the distressing things that I think has occurred is with consolidation of farm lands. You've seen large agri-businesses benefit from enormous profits from existing farm programs, and I think we should be focusing most of those programs on those family farmers.

Agriculture is the backbone of Florida's economy; it was here long before the development of our state's coastal enclaves. Agriculture was here before the Sierra Club. Our state's farmers are its first environmentalists, caring for the land because they know it's the land that provides for us all. We aren't going to be driven away by people too privileged to understand that.

The importance of agriculture is pretty simple. People have to eat and people like to eat. Promoting agriculture is actually pretty easy.
SAM TURNER

Farming always has been different from the average business. We reward farmers for enduring the uncertainties of trying to plant and harvest a crop because agriculture is regarded as a necessity to the nation's well being. We realize that many huge farming enterprises are immensely profitable, well protected from the ups and downs of weather cycles and recipients of generous subsidies from the federal government. But many smaller farms are one bad year away from bankruptcy.... Failing to help sustain the agriculture industry could mean that not only will many farmers go out of business but also that many potential young farmers will decide to look for another line of work. That would be bad news.

With the introduction of agriculture mankind entered upon a long period of meanness, misery, and madness, from which they are only now being freed by the beneficent operation of the machine.
